I met my best friend when I was 9 years old. I still remember the moment we first met. It was a Sunday at church, right after lunch. I was in charge of taking my little brother to the bathroom to wash his chocolate covered face when we first met. I remember the first few minutes were rather awkward, but by the time I had my brother's face clean: we were already fast friends.
We were able to just connect, like we were kindred spirits. We became best friends.
We would slip each other notes in church, you know the normal 9-10 year old little notes
"Dear Amy,
Hi, How are you? I am fine.
I love you. You are my best friend.
Love, Marcia"
along with a doodle of hearts and smiley faces. After church, we would go play on the organ and play random songs on it. We had tea parties and gave each other little gifts. One time she gave me a little music box that sang edelweiss, I played that thing nonstop until it wore out.
we pretty much grew up together. There have been times when we weren't as close, but she has always been there. she has taught me so many lessons in life. When I was loosing hope, she would always point me to the Cross, which was the place I really should have been. I often find myself writing to her instead of my journal, because she can understand my mangled thoughts. I can trust her with anything in the world. and she has helped me find myself. She pushed me to find more of who I am suppose to be in Christ, and who I was created to be.
we rarely see each other now because distance separates us, but we are closer than ever.
now, we talk to each other about our darkest fears, highest dreams, and deepest hopes.
we ramble on about our latest awkward moments, and fangirl over Anne and Gil and happily ever afters' in general. vintage and whimsical things make us happy. quotes are our soul food. and we both love music, although I just listen to it, she actually makes and plays it. ;) The Boat Song by JJ Heller is our song.
she dreams of being a musician and writer and I, a photographer and designer. We are both hopeless hopeful romantics. we plan to go on adventures together: in coffee shops, and abroad. Larkrise to Candleford is one of our favorites: the lighting and filming is ever so lovely.
we are kindred spirits.
so, my dear Diana,
time is moving on. we both are growing our wings, and someday we will learn to fly. but, as we embark on this next chapter of our lives, I want to tell you something: I will always, always be by your side, even if it isn't literally, because kindreds can never be separated and we have the love of Christ binding us together. dearest, always keep seeking. He is our great reward!
I can't wait to go on more adventures with you. I love you THIS big!
